Crazy weather!

This weekend it was in the upper 80s.  Maybe it was even in the 90s at some point.  Either way, it was freakin’ hot for Cleveland in April.  Now, it’s freezing.  Well, not freezing, but still flipping cold.  It’s actually now normal weather for Cleveland in April, but having had that one weekend has really spoiled me.  But, the good thing about chilly weather is that I really want to knit more now. This is the opposite of how I normally feel when the weather starts to warm up.

I’m really enjoying knitting now, too.  I’m dreading summer because I know I never want to knit when it’s hot.  I’m coming up with a list of things to knit this summer.  I want to make some t-shirt scrap rugs for the kitchen, some cotton shopping bags, some cotton Swiffer covers, dishcloths, some new rugs for the bathroom…  Practical COTTON things.  LOL!  I also am trying to figure out what pattern to use for a runner on our buffet.  I have this lovely chocolate brown linen to use.  I’m loving Ravelry, but not loving the runners I’ve seen there.  I am not a lacy table top kinda gal & most runners are lacy.  So, I think I’ll just design my own.

I’ve also been knitting & selling wool balls stuffed with bamboo for babies.  But, I must admit, that if I never knit that pattern again I’ll be totally happy.  LOL!  I’ve made about 15 now.  That’s totally enough.

Conversation with (an almost) 2 year old

Last night I was putting Piper to bed.  We were in bed reading some books.  The following “conversation” occurred…

Piper: (pointing to a dog) Oggie!

Me: Yes, that’s a doggie! What does a doggie say?

Piper: (very angry face) NO!!!

She turns pages…

Piper: (points to a picture of an umbrella) Dat?

Me: That’s an umbrella.  Can you say umbrella?

Piper: (with a very proud look on her face) WOOF! WOOF!

Yeah.  I love when they start learning to talk.

I sit

I sit on my Bit-O-Honey to make them softer.

I’d put them in my pocket, but I don’t have any pockets.

They’re better when they’re soft.

Can anyone recommend a dentist?

Yummy giveaway!

Giveaway: Win a FREE case of healthy & delicious Zukay naturally fermented probiotic salsa & relish!
http://www.cheeseslave.com/2009/02/02/giveaway-win-a-case-of-zukay-probiotic-salsa-relish/

That’s a giveaway on my favorite food blog…  I’m posting so I can get an entry, but also so you can get one, too!  And if you live in the Cleveland area, you can let me taste it when you win.  LOL!  Our Whole Foods USED to carry this product, but by the time Cheeselave told me about it, they had stopped carrying it due to “lack of interest.”  Boo!  I think it sounds SO good.

Anyway – enter the contest or not.  It doesn’t matter – just check out her blog.  I’ve been linking to it over there on the side for a while now.  Go….  Seriously….  Talk to me if you’re interested in finding out where we get our milk, cream, butter & grassfed meats.  ;-)

Xan is MAD

Xan is mad at us.  Well, he WAS mad at us.  He was about to take it out on the road.  It’s 7 degrees out there & it’s all icy and snow covered, but he was going to run away.  He was TOTALLY prepared, too.  If by prepared you mean having a pair of binoculars, a plastic Trick or Treat Jack O’Lantern bucket, a small airplane and a Care Bear.  Nevermind that there were no shoes or jacket in this scenario.

When asked how he would get money, he angrily informed V that he would get a cup for people to put money in.  AND that he would live in a box next to some trash cans.

I’m glad we were able to convince him to stay.  I doubt he’d make it far.

You know, and we’d miss him terribly.

New Year, new goals

I am hoping to find the time to update here more regularly.  I can tell that there are a few people who haven’t given up, judging from the stats I get.  I needed to cut back on the Internet after the election brought out the worst in me and many others.  But it’s a new year & it’s time to finally let bygones be bygones and move on.  I have a gorgeous family and lots of true friends who mean the world to me.

I am also going to work harder at communicating with my family.  I still call my mom almost every day, but I am so awful at written correspondence and calling my sisters.

I also have big plans for the stereotypical resolutions – exercise, eat better, cleaner house, work on finances…  Those same resolutions everyone on the planet makes.  ((rolls eyes))  We’ll see.  I know it’s something I need to do.  My father was less than three years older than me when he had a heart attack. I don’t need to be perfect, just at peace.  I’m not currently at peace with myself.  I hope to get closer to peace in many different ways this year.

On the cleaning front, I just need to share this.  I signed up with Motivated Moms and started last Sunday.  It’s AWESOME.  I’ve tried other things like this before, but they were too overwhelming for me.  BUT I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE MOTIVATED MOMS!  I mean, this is what I’ve been looking for.  I need this.  I’m so glad I found it.  LOL!  So far, I’ve mostly kept up.  I went a bit off schedule yesterday because we were barely home all day/night.  We went on a few errands and then to a New Year’s Eve party.  ((Tons of fun, though!))

So, today the kids & I are enjoying a Tom & Jerry marathon on Boomerang.  Vince went out to play poker.  The chores can pretty much wait for a few more minutes.  (I need to clean the microwave!)  This is just a simple & beautiful day.  The kids are playing and being sweet.  I’m relaxed and ready to make a pot of tea…  The soup (navy bean & ham) is in the crockpot.  I’ve got rolls ready to go in the oven.  I bought some crackers & cheese, too…  Yum.

I’m hoping to put up some backdated Christmas posts.  If I can remember to get the pictures off the camera, that is.  I can’t do it on my old dog of a machine anymore, so I need to do it on V’s.  But I never remember to bring it up.

OK, so my kids are diving off the couch and “sword fighting” so I need to get off of here.  LOL!

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EVERYONE!

Veterinarian’s Day

(Yeah, I know it’s been ages.  So much I could offer up in explanation, but I’ll refrain because I do NOT have anything nice to say. )

So, Vinnie has been home sick the past two days.  He’s fine, it was just a cold.  But, since he’s home, he has kindly offered to pick up Xany from school.  I’ve loved not having to wait in the dread pick up line.

Today, he got Xan & asked if he wanted to go get a special snack.  Xan, very surprisingly, declined.  Vince was shocked & asked why.  Xan told him that he had pizza today at school.  He said that Maggie’s grandpa brought in pizza for them to thank them for a card they made him.  Apparently they made him a card for Veterinarian’s Day.

So Vince asked, “Do you mean Veteran’s Day?”

He said, “No Dad, the word is veterinarian.”

After Vince explained the difference, Xan said, “Alright, I’m just gonna say we made him a card because he fought in a war.”

LOL!  I thought that was cute & a good chance to get my butt back on here.

Hooray!

Congratulations, President-elect Obama!

Congratulations, President-elect Obama!

My friend Amanda shared this image with me.  (She didn’t take it, just told me about it…) I think it’s very touching.  I don’t know where it comes from.  Let me know if it’s yours & I’ll give you credit for it.

My City Fresh Stop ended last week, but a friend of mine was able to sign me up for the last two weeks of the Cleveland Hts. pickup.  So, this is my second to last City Fresh of the 2008 season.  OK – so that’s not entirely true since I signed up for the two holiday shares.
